About Me
About Pilates
I have been in the fitness industry since 1996 initially as a gym instructor after my two sons started school. I took my level 2 Pilates matwork qualification in 2004 and in 2013 retrained with Body Control Pilates and am now a Level 3 Certified Instructor and Level 3 Bone Health Specialist. I am also a qualified Aromatherapist and Massage Therapist. I am passionate about Pilates and want to help people feel fitter and stronger. Classes are small and friendly and all ages and abilities are welcome. I have an on-line booking system so please have a look at the current schedule.

Body Control Pilates offers a comprehensive programme of exercises for matwork. They are adapted from the ‘classical’ exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. We believe that many of these classical exercises are often not suitable for the average person and the average body. In order for someone to work safely and effectively and to gain the full benefits of Pilates, these classical exercises should be broken down to establish good movement skills thus building the best possible foundation upon which to progress towards the classical, more advanced work. This is the essence of the Body Control Pilates Method.
Body Control Pilates is remarkably effective - and medically-approved. It is of an holistic nature, being based upon a well-constructed philosophical foundation. Central to the Method is 'awareness of your own body' and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles:
-
Relaxation
-
Co-ordination
-
Alignment
-
Stamina
-
Concentration
-
Centring
-
Breathing
-
Flowing Movement

Testimonials
I have been attending Nikki's pilates classes for years and thoroughly enjoy them.
The classes are small, which allows Nikki to provide a more personalised class.

I have recently had a full ceramic hip replacement.
The physiotherapists were impressed and delighted with my ability to move and weight transfer from day one. This was without doubt helped by being as fit as possible before surgery. I have been one of Nikki's students in recent months and also for a few years before my first hip surgery.
Pilates is one of the best forms of safe exercising before surgery as core strength is vital to enable comfortable exercising and movement post surgery. Even if you have a lot of pain before the surgery there are exercises that are possible that will not be too uncomfortable to do. I would recommend you do this if you are able.
I am looking forward to returning to full fitness and resuming my Pilates classes.

It is so noticeable what a difference your Pilates style of classes has made to my physical well-being. This has also meant me feeling less stressed about my knee or back locking due to my improved core (I think?!).
A year ago, I couldn't walk up the steep flight of steps at Denham Station without my knee locking and having to stop. Last week, I walked up without any hint of problems at all and sailed through! I'm sure this is all down to Pilates. ……..
……… It will be good to make others aware that there are different styles of Pilates
and ways of teaching it in smaller classes. A lot of people I know have tried
Pilates, the wrong type and in a bigger class (like my first attempt) and got
put off!
